It's already known that Taiwanese multi-hyphenate Jay Chou wears many hats: singer, composer, actor, director. But it looks like the superstar is about to add another feather to his cap, if renowned action choreographer Yuen Woo-ping has his way.

Jay recently starred in martial arts biopic True Legend, directed by Yuen, and the man thinks that the singer-songwriter has what it takes to be the next action star in the same vein as Jackie Chan, Jet Li and Donnie Yen.

"He's better than I thought. He looked like a trained martial artist when performing 20 moves in succession," said Yuen at Berlin Film Festival on Monday. His latest film, about the life and times of folk hero Su Can, was selected for the Berlinale Special.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to state that most of the movies Jay appears in bank largely on his celebrity - including the recent Treasure Hunter, opposite Lin Chi-ling, and Zhang Yimou's Curse of the Golden Flower (hands up those of you who tried stifling a chuckle at Jay's kungfu general).

But Yuen, who became known to Western audiences in Hollywood after he worked on the fight sequences in The Matrix, was still full of praise for Jay.

In True Legend, he portrayed two different characters and wield all sorts of weapons in the film, prompting Yuen to say, "He learns every move really fast, making him a potential action star for the future."

Word has it that Jay has been cast as the enigmatic Invincible East in Yuen's next directorial effort, New Swordsman, but the director laughingly dismissed the speculation. "Even I don't know about that piece of news. No way, I'll be the first to object."
